Itinerary

Day 1

Hotel Pick-up in Tbilisi

Your guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel in Tbilisi at 9:00 AM to begin the historical journey to Mtskheta, the former capital of the Kingdom of Iberia.

Jvari Monastery

The first stop is the famous Jvari Monastery, located on a hill overlooking the confluence of the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers. Built in the 6th century, this early Christian monument is a masterpiece of Georgian architecture and part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

From here you will enjoy spectacular panoramic views of Mtskheta and the surrounding mountains.

Armaziskhevi Archaeological Site

Continue to Armaziskhevi, an archaeological site located just a few minutes from Mtskheta. Excavations reveal remains from the Bronze Age and early Iron Age, as well as artifacts connected with Roman influence and pre-Christian Georgian culture.

Samtavro Monastery

Next, visit the historic Samtavro Monastery, where the tombs of the first Christian king and queen of Georgia are located. Christianity was adopted as the state religion of the Kingdom of Iberia in 319 AD, marking a significant turning point in Georgian history.

Shio-Mgvime Monastery

Drive to the peaceful Shio-Mgvime Monastery, founded in the 6th century by one of the Assyrian Fathers. The monastery is beautifully located among limestone cliffs and offers a tranquil spiritual atmosphere.

Svetitskhoveli Cathedral

Return to Mtskheta Old Town and visit the magnificent Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, the spiritual center of Georgia and one of the country’s most important religious monuments.

The cathedral dates back to the 11th century and is famous for its religious relics and historical significance.

Antioch Monastery

Visit the small Antioch Monastery, one of the oldest churches in Mtskheta, located near the Aragvi riverside.

Optional Activity

As an optional experience, guests may enjoy a boat cruise on the Mtkvari River (subject to availability).
