Your tour begins with a hotel pickup in Medellín by your professional local guide and comfortable air-conditioned vehicle. Leaving the city behind, you will travel east through the beautiful countryside of Antioquia, enjoying scenic landscapes, tropical forests, green mountains, and charming rural views along the way.
After approximately 1.5 hours of driving, you will arrive at El Peñol, a historic village with a fascinating story. The original town was relocated in the 20th century to create the spectacular Guatapé Reservoir, one of Colombia’s most impressive artificial lakes. During your visit, you will discover the history of the old town and see a replica representing the original settlement.
The tour continues to the famous El Peñol Rock (La Piedra del Peñol), one of Antioquia’s most iconic attractions. This massive granite formation offers one of the most spectacular viewpoints in Colombia. You can climb nearly 700 steps to reach the top and enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the Guatapé Reservoir, surrounded by islands, mountains, and crystal-clear waters. (Entrance ticket to El Peñol Rock is optional and can be purchased on-site.)
After this unforgettable experience, continue to Guatapé, a charming and colorful town known for its traditional architecture, vibrant streets, and unique decorative wall panels called “zócalos.” Enjoy free time to have lunch at a local restaurant, explore the picturesque streets, visit local shops, and relax while admiring the beautiful lake views.
You may also choose to join optional activities such as a boat ride on Guatapé Lake or taste delicious local Colombian specialties.
At the end of the day, enjoy a comfortable return journey to Medellín while admiring the beautiful landscapes of Antioquia. Stops can be made along the way for photos, souvenirs, or local snacks before arriving back at your accommodation and ending the tour.
