Chen Clan Ancestral Hall
Basic Overview
Also known as "Chen Clan Academy", Chen Clan Ancestral Hall is located on Zhongshan 7th Road, Guangzhou. It was initiated in the 14th year of the Guangxu Reign of the Qing Dynasty (1888) and completed in the 20th year of the Guangxu Reign (1894). Funded jointly by Chen clans from various regions in Guangdong Province, it served as a "clan-shared hall"—providing temporary accommodation for clan members traveling to the provincial capital to prepare for the imperial examinations or await official appointments.
It is one of the largest existing traditional Guangfu-style buildings. It also stands as China’s largest, best-preserved, and most exquisitely decorated ancestral hall-style structure, earning it the reputation of "the Pearl of Lingnan Architectural Art".
