Gobustan National Historical-Artistic Reserve

Travel southwest from Baku toward Gobustan, one of Azerbaijan’s most important archaeological areas.

Upon arrival, visit the Gobustan Museum, where interactive exhibitions provide an introduction to the region’s prehistoric inhabitants, archaeological discoveries, ancient lifestyles, and rock art.

Continue to the outdoor archaeological area to see Gobustan’s remarkable petroglyphs and rock carvings. Thousands of engravings have been discovered throughout the reserve, depicting people, animals, hunting scenes, rituals, boats, and other aspects of prehistoric life.

The surrounding rocky landscape also provides excellent panoramic views and photography opportunities.

Mud Volcanoes

Continue toward the famous Gobustan mud volcano area, one of the most distinctive natural attractions in Azerbaijan.

Depending on road and weather conditions, the final section may require a suitable local or off-road vehicle. Upon arrival, walk around the designated area and observe small volcanic cones, bubbling mud pools, and unusual geological formations.

The barren landscape creates an almost lunar atmosphere and provides excellent opportunities for landscape photography.

Bibi-Heybat Mosque

After exploring Gobustan, travel back toward Baku and stop at the impressive Bibi-Heybat Mosque.

Admire the mosque’s Islamic architecture, decorated interiors, domes, and minarets while learning about its cultural and religious significance. Visitors should dress respectfully when entering the mosque.

Return to Baku

After your visit, continue to Baku. The tour concludes with drop-off at your hotel or designated central Baku location.
