Tour Overview

Step back in time on a full-day journey from Çeşme to discover three of Western Anatolia’s most impressive ancient sites: Priene, Miletus, and Didyma. This tour offers a deep dive into the rich history of the Ionian League, blending ancient architecture, mythology, and breathtaking landscapes.

Start with a comfortable morning pick-up from your hotel in Çeşme. Travel along the Aegean coast and into the heart of ancient Ionia, where your guide will bring to life the stories of philosophers, architects, and oracles who shaped these cities. Wander through the ruins of Priene’s grid-planned streets, marvel at Miletus’ massive theatre, and end your day at Didyma, standing before the monumental columns of the Temple of Apollo—once one of the most important oracles in the ancient world.

Perfect for lovers of history, archaeology, and Greek mythology, this tour captures the essence of Anatolia’s classical heritage.

Itinerary

Day 1

(Lunch included)

At 8:30 AM, you will be picked up from your hotel for a full-day excursion to Priene-Miletus-Didyma. Priene, situated 16 kilometers inland from the sea on the Mykale Mountain, was once a bustling harbor city. The Hellenic world's most exquisite theaters can be found in Priene, and the city was gifted the Athena Polias Temple by Alexander the Great. The Temple of Athena (4th century BC), the Theater, the Agora, the Temple of Zeus Olympos, the Bouleuterion (150 BC), two gymnasiums, and the Demeter Sanctuary are still visible today.

Explore the vast ancient city of Miletus, once among the largest cities in Anatolia, and situated on significant trade routes. It was renowned as the epicenter of philosophy, science, and art during the ancient era. The Miletus School played a crucial role in the development of science in ancient Greek civilization. Anaximenes of Miletus attempted to explain existence, Anaximandros recorded universal laws on stones without invoking the gods, and Hecataios made a significant contribution to geography by creating the first-ever world map.

Didyma is not a city but an impressive temple dedicated to Apollon. It was rebuilt and once stood as one of the grandest temples in the Hellenic world, now ranking as the third largest temple in the world built-in Ionian style. It is recognized as one of the best-preserved ancient temples.
