This full-day guided tour begins with an early morning hotel pickup anywhere in Cappadocia. Your first destination is the remarkable Derinkuyu Underground City, the largest underground city in the region. Extending approximately 85 meters deep and spanning 11 floors, Derinkuyu was historically used as a shelter for thousands of people, their livestock, and food supplies during times of war. Inside, you will experience a constant cool temperature of around 12-13°C as you explore narrow tunnels, living quarters, kitchens, and storage areas. After exploring the underground city, the tour continues with a scenic 3-kilometer hike through the beautiful Ihlara Valley. This lush canyon is home to hundreds of ancient rock-cut churches that served as early Christian refuges during Roman times. Along the hike, you may also encounter local birds and wildlife, enhancing the natural atmosphere. Lunch is served in Belisirma Village, a peaceful riverside settlement where you can enjoy authentic Anatolian dishes in a traditional setting. In the afternoon, visit the impressive Selime Monastery, located at the end of Ihlara Canyon. This extensive rock-cut monastery offers panoramic views of Cappadocia’s unique landscape and features ancient chapels, kitchens, and living quarters carved into volcanic rock. The final stop of the day is Agzikarahan Caravanserai, a well-preserved Seljuk-era caravanserai built on the historic Silk Road. Explore its fortified walls and large courtyard, which once provided rest and shelter to traders and travelers.
