Tour Overview

Seven days along the north-eastern Black Sea coast, from Trabzon to Erzurum, with six nights in Trabzon, Uzungol, Ayder, Artvin and Erzurum. The tour takes in the 4th-century Sumela Monastery and Altindere Valley National Park, the Zigana Mountains and Karaca Cave, Trabzon's St. Sophia, Trabzon Castle and Ataturk's Mansion, the lake at Uzungol, the Firtina Valley and the Ayder Plateau, Borcka Karagol and the Georgian churches of Artvin, and the Seljuk and Mongol monuments of Erzurum.

Itinerary

Day 1

(Dinner included)

Greetings from Trabzon. The TSG team will assist you until you check into your hotel. The rest of the day is yours to explore Trabzon. Dinner and overnight in Trabzon.

TSG advice: Please remember that you can spend the night with an optional TSG Turkish Bath Tour and relax, getting rid of the tiredness of the day.

Day 2

(Breakfast and Dinner included)

After breakfast, we depart to visit the 4th-century Sumela Monastery, which clings to a sheer cliff face in a deep forest, and relax beside a fast-flowing stream at Altindere Valley National Park. After a lunch break, we will ride along the old Silk Road through the Zigana Mountains, which will take us to Karaca Cave, considered the most beautiful in Turkey for its colors and formations. After the tour, drop back to the hotel. Dinner and overnight in Trabzon.

Day 3

(Breakfast and Dinner included)

After breakfast, visit St. Sophia (Ayasofya), a 13th-century church with an extraordinary collection of Byzantine frescoes. Next is the Gulbahar Hatun Mosque, Trabzon Castle, and Ataturk's Mansion, which has a picturesque hillside retreat. Ortahisar Mosque, a Comneni cathedral in the old town, and Girls' Monastery, a nunnery built in the 13th century by Alexios III are the next stops of the tour. Enjoy the panoramic view of the city from Boztepe. Depart for Uzungol, one of the most photogenic locations in the region; have lunch at a fish restaurant, and sightseeing. Dinner and overnight at Uzungol.

Day 4

After breakfast, we will depart for Ayder Plateau. The tour will visit the botanic garden and enjoy a panoramic view of Rize along the way. Passing through Camlihemsin and the beautiful Firtina Valley, we will enjoy the panorama and see many waterfalls and old stone bridges. Lunch will be served in lush green forests on the foothills of the magnificent Kackar Mountains. Dinner and overnight in Ayder.

Day 5

(Breakfast and Dinner included)

After breakfast, you will be driven to Artvin, where you will visit Borcka Karagol and the ancient Georgian Doliskana Monastery and Yeni Rabat (Shetberdi) Church in Ardanuc, as well as the River Coruh, Turkey's fastest-flowing and best rafting river. Dinner and overnight in Artvin.

Day 6

(Breakfast and Dinner included)

After breakfast, we keep on driving through the Coruh River and Valley, which will take us to other Georgian churches; Ishan, Oshk-Vank, and Tortum Waterfalls on the way, lunch en route, and drive to Erzurum. Dinner and overnight in Erzurum.

Day 7

(Breakfast included)

After the breakfast, TSG will take you to visit Seljuk & Mongolian monuments; Cifte Minareli Madrasa, which is a theological school named for its towering twin minarets, and the Yakutiye Madrasa, which was built by Mongolian Prince Olcayto in 1308. The following sights to see are Ulu Mosque and Erzurum Castle.

The tour will end with the transfer to Erzurum Airport for a homebound flight and farewell.
